THE Tasmanian Trampoline Gymnastics team has returned triumphant from the 2017 Australian National Gymnastics Championships, boasting a medal haul of four gold, for silver and eight bronze medals across four disciplines.
Among those to attend the event, which was held at Hisense Arena in June, was Glenorchy local Tala Castro Sherin.
The 15-year-old took out a bronze medal in the Junior Women’s Tumbling event, making her one of the first Tasmanians in the history of the discipline to qualify in the international stream.
Trampoline team leader Ben Kelly said this was a “great result” for Tasmania.
“There were so many outstanding results in the youth and junior international divisions,” he said.
“The team competed confidently across all four disciplines, particularly in the youth and junior divisions, highlighting the depth of talent within this sport across the state.
“Some of the highlights were the three gold medals in the youth divisions, as well as the bronze medals in the men’s team events on the final day of competition.
“This is the first time Tasmania has won two medals in the teams competition.”
The 2017 Australian National Gymnastics Championships was the first selection trial for the World Championships, which will be held in November.
The final trial will be held in Bendigo in September.
