A moment in time

MORE than 200 aspiring photographers have shared their vision of the local area in the third annual Northern Suburbs Amateur Photography Competition.

Community members gathered at the Multicultural Hub recently to launch the exhibition, which revolved around the theme of ‘A Moment in Time’, and hear the winners announced.

The competition is an initiative of Josh Willie MLC and was created to give locals an opportunity to share their passion for photography and where they live.

“You can see how proud people are to celebrate the diversity and talent of our community,” Mr Willie said.

“You can certainly tell that the entries hold special meaning to the photographer and reflect the things most dear to them.”

Glenorchy resident Janet Hinson won the Open Category with a photo titled, ‘Reflections – Bay of Fires.’

The People’s Choice Award went to Montrose Bay High School student Ben Douglass, who captured the Bridgewater Bridge immersed in the late afternoon jerry.

“I’m overwhelmed that people voted for my entry,” Ben said.

“I love photography and this award gives me confidence to pursue my desire to make a career out of it.”

Award winners also included Kelvin Ball, Molly Green, Paisley Wilson, Leonie McDonald and Melanie Cleeland.

“I would encourage locals to keep their eye out for great photo opportunities for next year’s competition,” Mr Willie said.
